Outing in QB

Last night, the gang (Helena, Ken, Babe, William, Carina, Mark and me) went for a movie outing. One of the rare social gathering which Helena planned. Haha. So, we met in church at about 7.00p.m. and waited to pick Ken up. In the process, we met David who was there for intercessory prayer meeting for SWYF. At around 7.45, we left for Ken's house to pick him up when we saw his car tuning in to their road. Helena, being Helena, went to chase after him (in the car). He was driving home really fast and Hel said that Ken was running away from us. But in the end, he was just late. His mom wan't too happy. Luckily, his mood wasn't spoilt and we left for QB.

We went there to buy the tickets and decided where to eat. Ken suggested Manhattan Fish Market. We had about half an hour to eat as the movie would begin at 9.05. So, in the end, we were still a bit late for the movie and it was probably 10 minutes into it. Well, we watched "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button". Well, this would be a spoiler to all those that never watched it yet but this summary is taken from Wikipedia.

The elderly Daisy (Cate Blanchett) is on her deathbed with her daughter Caroline (Julia Ormond) in a New Orleans hospital as Hurricane Katrina approaches in August 2005. Daisy tells the story of a blind clockmaker named Gateau (Elias Koteas), who was commissioned to create a clock to hang in the New Orleans train station. After receiving news of his son's death in World War I, he continued work on his clock, but intentionally designed it to run backward, in the hope that it would bring back those who died in the war. After her cryptic story, Daisy asks Caroline to read aloud from a diary containing photographs and postcards written by Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt). Caroline begins to read as the story transitions to Benjamin's narration.

On November 11, 1918, just as the people of New Orleans are celebrating the end of World War I, a baby boy is born with the appearance and physical maladies of an elderly man. The mother of the baby dies shortly after giving birth, and the father, Thomas Button, takes the baby and abandons him on the porch of a nursing home. Queenie (Taraji P. Henson) and Tizzy (Mahershalalhashbaz Ali), a couple who work at the nursing home, find the baby. Queenie, who is unable to conceive, decides to take the baby in as her own, against Tizzy's wishes. She names the baby Benjamin.

Over the course of the story, Benjamin begins to biologically grow younger. In 1930, while still appearing to be in his seventies, he meets a young girl named Daisy (Elle Fanning), whose grandmother lives in the nursing home. The children play together and listen to Daisy's grandmother read from a storybook.

A few years later, Benjamin goes to work on a tugboat on the docks of New Orleans for Captain Mike (Jared Harris). In their free time, the captain takes him to brothels and bars. For the first time, Benjamin meets Thomas Button, who does not reveal that he is Benjamin's father. Later, Benjamin leaves New Orleans with the tugboat crew for a long-term work engagement; Daisy asks him to send her postcards from his travels, which Benjamin does.

During a stay in Russia, Benjamin meets a British woman named Elizabeth Abbott (Tilda Swinton) and falls in love with her; Daisy is visibly hurt to receive this news via postcard. Elizabeth is already married, but she has an affair with Benjamin. The fling ends the day after the Pearl Harbor attack, when Elizabeth abruptly departs.

Benjamin gets caught up in World War II when Captain Mike's boat and crew are enlisted by the United States Navy. After engaging a German U-boat in battle, Captain Mike and most of the sailors perish. After this, Benjamin, after seeing a hummingbird, sees death in a different way, as opposed to the retirement home where death seemed more natural.

In 1945, Benjamin returns to New Orleans, and learns that Daisy has become a successful dancer in New York City. When he travels there to meet Daisy at a performance, he finds Daisy has fallen in love with a fellow dancer, David, and tries to accept that their lives have separated.

Benjamin again meets Thomas Button, who is dying. Thomas reveals to Benjamin that he is his father and bequeaths all of his assets to Benjamin, including the house and the family button-making business. Benjamin eventually makes peace with his father before the elder Button dies.

Daisy's dance career is ended by a car accident in Paris. When Benjamin goes to see her, Daisy is amazed at his youthful appearance, but frustrated at her own injuries, turns him away.

In 1962, Daisy returns to New Orleans and meets Benjamin again. Now the same physical age, they fall in love and move in together. They experience the 1960s together, in large part blissfully but increasingly aware of Benjamin growing younger while Daisy grows older.

After Daisy gives birth to a girl, Caroline, Benjamin, believing he cannot be a father to his daughter due to his reverse aging, and not wanting to burden Daisy with having to raise two children, sells his belongings, and leaves them to Daisy and Caroline before leaving them both to travel the world.

Reading this account in the hospital room of 2005, Caroline learns that Benjamin is her father. She is upset that Daisy took such a long time to inform her of this, but finds that Benjamin sent her a postcard from everywhere for each of her birthdays expressing his love for his daughter.

In 1980, Benjamin, now looking like a young man, returns to meet Daisy in her dance studio. The aging Daisy is now married to Robert Williams, a kind man who supports her well, to Benjamin's relief. Daisy introduces Benjamin to Robert and the 12-year-old Caroline as a long-time family friend. Daisy and Benjamin then meet privately in Benjamin's hotel where they share their passion for each other, but they mutually realize that Daisy has become too old for Benjamin.

Benjamin departs again and continues to grow younger. One day Daisy receives a phone call from social workers. They inform her that they found Benjamin - now a young pre-teen just hitting puberty - living in a condemned building, and that they called her because they saw her name all over his diary. The social workers believe that he has dementia as he sometimes forgets that he had just eaten and cannot remember Daisy or much of his past. Daisy moves into the nursing home where Benjamin grew up and takes care of him as he becomes a confused 5-year-old boy with a growing temper.

In 2002, Mr. Gateau's old clock is removed from the train station. Shortly afterward, in the spring of 2003, the now-physically infant, 85-year-old Benjamin dies in Daisy's arms. At the moment before Benjamin dies, Daisy claims to have seen in his eyes that he still remembered her.

In the 2005 hospital room, the hurricane raging outside downs the electrical system. As Caroline briefly leaves the room, Daisy passes away, her wish of seeing Benjamin again seemingly answered by a hummingbird hovering outside the storm-drenched windows. Against the sounds of the city's emergency sirens and reports of breached levees, the backwards clock is shown in a basement, still working, as floodwaters envelope the storage room where it is kept.

It was a very good movie and we ended up going home at 12.00 midnight.

Lots of love,

Adele Emily

Life's AWESOME!

Woo hoo. I just fell off my bike today! Just when I finally received my 'P' licence. The same senario happened when I first received my 'L'. I was parking the bike and I scraped the wall. That was on the right side of the bike. The mirror was scratched and well, a bit of the paint came off. Today, I was in church and I saw Ken. I called him and went to park my bike. As I was turning, I suddenly lost control and fell. Oh yeah, I fell on the right side again. This time, the whole mirror (the one with the scratches) broke off. (Is this a coincidence?) Later we found out that it was because my tyre was punctured by something. It was pretty funny. Ken helped by following me in his car to find a place to repair my bike but everywhere was closed. After that, we both left to eat dinner in our own homes like nothing happened. The best was I told my parents and they didn't scold me. So, for that I thank God.

Visit to General Hospital (13 Feb 09)

Well, technically, this is part 2 of the Advent project. You see, we still had lots of presents overflowing the Advent Room so we decided to give some to the children in the hospital. We (Andre, Ken, Wil Sern, Greg and I) sorted out the presents to be handed out. That took about two hours. Soon, we all got very hungry and decided to go to KFC for lunch where Andre ordered a bucket of 15 pieces of chicken for us.

After lunch, we met Ian in church where we split up into two groups (Andre's car- Ken, WS and Greg with the girls' presents and Ian's car- Me and the boys' presents) From there, we headed out to GH to spread some joy to them. The kids there were very ill and had problems. It was very sad to see that but all we could do was just give a present in hopes of them getting better. This post is once again a post that has to be filled with pictures as words can't express the whole event.

Rachel's Sweet Sixteen Party (30-31 Jan 09)

Well, it started off with Kevin coming over to my house at 11.30 in the morning. Rach came to pick us up at around 1.45 and we left to Stella Maris to drop of the million and one things (mainly food) we brought over. After that, we had lunch in some Indian Cuisine restaurant and it was D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S!

We went back to just chill for a while while waiting for the guest to arrive. So we were on the bed, messing with my laptop while Kevin nicely snoozed away in the other bed. We decided to blow up some balloons for the party and just by experiment, I held it against the back door and it actually stuck on without anything.

The magical balloons!

Sleeping Kevin, hald dead with body aching like an old granpa!

Anyways, Rach was busy taking pictures of the house while I was busy taking pictures of her taking pictures of the house!

Birthday Girl in action taking the magical balloons!

Posing nicely for the camera!

Soon, the guest pretty much arrived. Sonia and her bro, Sachin and Boris came. (Please forgive me if I forgot anyone). They went out to breathe the fresh sea breeze while two models (Rachel and Kevin) posing on the wall. It was a nice picture, I gotta admit.

The two statues
We went down to the beach and had some fun standing on the rocks and writing in sand. Ok, against my blogging nature, the pictures that are placed are better left unexplained as a picture is worth a thousand words. (with the help of a few captions)

But I erased it in the nick ot time!

Another shot of the birthday model, erm, I mean girl.

A rare shot of Boris and Sachin

An even rarer shot of the photographer

And ANOTHER picture of the birthday girl!

Well, after that, we all fought for the bathroom cause we all were very wet. (D-U-H) We had fun on the beach and collected some very unique looking seashells. Then it was DINNER TIME! All the food were superb. Of course, with a birthday, there always will be a birthday cake. This was ummm, Tiramisu and it was HEAVENLY!

The yummy cake

Rachel and her dad (on duty for lighting the candles)

Cut the birthday cake, ATTACK!

We had fireworks after that and it was soon time for everyone to leave. Awww, then the five of us (Rach, her mom, her dad, Kevin and me) stayed there and while Kevin the grandfather slept, Rach and me played Rock Legends. (actually, it was me playing and her getting addicted.) It was pretty cool as she reached level 12 in about one hour or so. Not bad eh? Well, finally, we decided to turn in fot the night!

The next morning, Rach's dad woke us up and they left for the beach again while I stood on the sidelines as I didn't have anymore spare clothes. So, we collected more seashells and soon after that, we left for home as I had a gathering to prepare for. Overall, the two days spent with my dear and close friend was a success and we are planning on doing it again! WOO HOO!

Lots of love,
Adele Emily
